Food Services

Food Services

The goal at Lazarus House is to provide nourishing and culturally relevant food to anyone who is hungry and comes to our door.

The current economic situation is bringing increasing numbers of families to us for support, guidance, supplemental groceries and meals. Hardest hit in our service area are single mothers with young children and the elderly living on fixed incomes. Often they cannot afford to buy enough food so they eat smaller portions, skip meals or sometimes run out of food altogether. We expect this to increase to continue for years to come.

Our food programs are supported by the Advocacy Team and a host of loving, caring full and part-time staff and volunteers that care about each Guest. Every person we serve is treated with dignity, respect, love, kindness and without judgment.

Lazarus House Food Pantry

More than a bag of groceries

St. Martha’s Food Pantry supplies emergency groceries to over 1200 families each week.

The Pantry offers a “one-of-a-kind” dignified shopping experience, allowing choices and greater independence and planning. The Pantry also provides the opportunity to gather as a community in comfortable surroundings as families gather to choose from what we have to offer that week.

During the pandemic, we have pivoted to pre-bagged groceries handed out under plexiglass safety barriers to up to 1300 families each week. It’s not ideal, but it’s working, and families are grateful. Our aim is to provide enough healthful, delicious and related food for a family to create at least 4 complete meals. We also have a goal to supply as much fresh produce, meat, milk and eggs as we can gather and store weekly.

Lazarus House Soup Kitchen

More than a hot meal

The Good Shepherd Soup Kitchen provides freshly prepared hot meals for more than 300 people a day at breakfast and lunch sittings.

During the pandemic, we are preparing nutritious “To-Go” meals and distributing them through our service window to keep Guests and staff safe.

Our soup kitchen program also offers the community a safe place to gather, interact, pick up some personal care items and work with our Community Resource Specialist to get help with accessing services and navigating the steps to complete government or agency forms and applications.

If you prefer to have your donation picked up

We have recently partnered with ReSupply, a veteran-run organization. ReSupply will pick any donation for a fee and deliver it to our store (there are no restrictions on what you can donate when using ReSupply). This new partnership will help us redirect the thousands of dollars that have traditionally been spent on staff, trucks, maintenance, gas, sorting donations and disposal to programs that impact the lives of our Guests.
