"Last weekend my mom and I volunteered to help out with the soup truck at Lazarus House. Neither of us had done it before and we both envisioned that we would just be tagging along with all the regulars. However, when we got to the shelter, we realized that WE were the soup truck. Much to our surprise, the one woman in charge of the operation appointed my mom as driver and me as navigator. It was a really good experience and everyone we handed out food to was very appreciative. One thing we noticed was that the people were in desperate need of coats and blankets. We had five coats and one blanket to give out and they went fast. So if you have any old coats or blankets just laying around your house, Lazarus House would be more than happy to take them off your hands!" - Meredith, age 17, involved with Lazarus House since the age of seven.
Individual & Group Volunteers
Each day Lazarus House volunteers work side by side with staff to ensure that every guest who comes through our doors is welcomed and served with dignity and respect.
Our volunteers have a profound impact on those they serve. Volunteers not only give of their time and talents, but prepare and serve meals, assist with administrative duties, sort food for our food pantry and clothing for our thrift stores, provide housekeeping services, offer electrical, plumbing and carpentry skill, and so much more.
Volunteers come from all areas of our community and volunteer both on and off-site. For example, many churches will form small groups who gather together to prepare a meal, sponsor a hat or coat drive, make sandwiches for bagged lunches or complete service projects that help improve guest care as well as our facilities.
Volunteer opportunities exist for businesses and corporations. Corporate volunteers often volunteer their time during their workday. Many serve lunch at our Good Shepherd Center Soup Kitchen where warm smiles and caring faces greet each of our guests as they are served a hot nourishing meal daily. Other opportunities include Days of Service, adopting special projects when extra hands are needed, organizing food and clothing drives, off-site fundraisers, supporting our development staff and volunteering or sponsoring our special events.
If you are a person with a warm heart, who likes to help people and can welcome all those who come to our door, we have many volunteer opportunities available. To volunteer, please complete the volunteer application and/or contact the Volunteer Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or 978-269-5217.
