Many people recoil when they encounter a homeless man or woman on the streets. Lazarus House, led by executive director Bridget Shaheen, embraces those who don’t have a place to call home and don’t have the means to feed themselves. Shaheen, who has been involved with Lazarus House since its founding in 1983 and has run this Lawrence nonprofit organization since 1993, is this year’s recipient of the Book of Golden Deeds Award, bestowed by the Exchange Club of Lawrence.
