Position Summary:

This person is responsible for providing a friendly and courteous welcome to everyone who comes to the Good Shepherd Center Soup Kitchen and performs variety of administrative and clerical tasks.

Position Description:

  • Present the face of the Ministry to guests, donors, volunteers and staff coming to the Good Shepherd Center Soup Kitchen.

  • Greet and sign in all guests entering the Soup Kitchen for a meal or a meeting with an Advocate.

  • Inform guests of rules pertaining to personal items, cell phone usage, etc. and assist the Advocacy staff in enforcing those rules.

  • Manage all incoming phone calls and route accordingly.

  • Handle queries via phone and direct to appropriate parties.

  • Provide general information regarding Lazarus House to the general public, guests and donors.

  • Collaborate with the kitchen staff, Community Resource Advocate, HR Assistant/Office Assistant, and main office staff to ensure that the atmosphere of the Soup Kitchen is safe, calm and respectful.

  • Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the front desk area and bathrooms.

  • Work with the HR Assistant/Office Assistant to direct guests for appointments and other meetings.

  • Assist with the Project Bethlehem Program by calling gift recipients and working with the project leader as needed.

  • Receive and dispatch deliveries as necessary in absence of the Community Resource Advocate.

  • In the Community Resource Advocate’s absence, act as lead to distribute toiletries and other necessary items to guests.

  • Serves as a bilingual translator when needed.

  • Assists in the Soup Kitchen as needed.

  • Will order supplies as needed.

  • Schedule meetings and appointments as needed.

  • Assist in managing the calendar of the Director of Operations and shared Ministry calendars.

  • Fulfills other position related duties as required.


  • Bi-lingual; English/Spanish required.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Demonstrate strong commitment to the mission of Lazarus House Ministries.

  • Understanding and support of how the Gospel foundation drives our decisions and actions throughout the Ministry.

  • Courteous, people and team-oriented with excellent inter-personal and communications skills.

  • Experience working with diverse groups of individuals.

  • Good organizational and administrative skills.

  • 2 years of experience working in an office environment.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

The information described here includes but is not necessarily limited to general physical requirements, demands and/or working conditions that an employee is likely to encounter at Lazarus House, Inc.   Additional requirements may arise as your employment and needs of the Ministry evolve. You must be able to handle or possess the ability to meet the following:

  • Prolonged sitting and/or standing, some bending, stooping and stretching.

  • Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate equipment pertinent to your area- office, kitchen, warehouse, cleaning, etc.

  • Occasionally lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Travel from building to building within the Ministry and/or to external agencies.

  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to work with or be exposed to diverse populations, including people who are homeless or have mental illness or other challenges

  • Interact effectively with staff, guests, volunteers, benefactors and the general public.

  • Manage multiple priorities

  • Able to manage the stress of the job.
