Part-Time Relief Shelter Worker (Weekend Evenings, 4 pm – Midnight) – CURRENTLY HIRING FOR TWO POSITIONS

Position Summary:

These part-time (weekend evenings, 4pm-midnight with the ability to work additional shifts as needed) positions are responsible for preparing meals, cleaning, laundry, organizing and providing support to Guests in a ministry-based approach to ensure the atmosphere of the Emergency Shelter is a safe, stable, structured and supportive one. Candidates that are verbally proficient in both Spanish and English are highly desirable.

Position Description:

  • Interact with Guests in a respectful manner, treating all with dignity and respect, with a tone and understanding that all employees are there to serve and support our Guests.
  • Prepare meals and clean up afterward for groups of 20+ (based on appropriate shift).
  • Launder, fold and put away/distribute Guest clothing and Emergency Shelter materials such as sheets, towels, etc.
  • Complete assigned cleaning and organizational tasks based on the assigned shift.
  • Orient newly arriving Guests to Emergency Shelter protocols and policies.
  • Support Guests including registering, checking-in, monitoring, and assessing behavior and overall well-being during day-to-day routines.
  • Ensure Guests relinquish medications to staff when entering the Emergency Shelter and that medications remained locked until the need for distribution to the appropriate Guest at the appropriate time.
  • Observe and assess Guest behavior and proactively de-escalate potentially challenging situations. Monitor overall Emergency Shelter environment for safety.
  • Assist Guests in maintaining goals and life skills. Assist and support in problem-solving skills.
  • Use communication tools effectively including documentation and shift change to bring forward any Guest and Emergency Shelter issues and occurrences that take place while on shift.
  • Work multi-disciplinary Emergency Shelter staff to identify potential challenges and provide input for solutions to Emergency Shelter Director and other staff members.
  • Train, assist and provide direction for volunteers in the Emergency Shelter.
  • Fulfill other position related duties as required.
