Position Summary:
This person reports to the Soup Kitchen Manager and must have experience working in a food service and/or customer service environment. The ideal person is enthusiastic about food preparation, serving others and takes pride in his or her work environment.
Position Description:
- Under the supervision of the Soup Kitchen Manager, help to prepare premade breakfast and lunches in accordance with Serve-Safe and applicable rules and regulations in amounts sufficient to serve all who come.
- Serve meals with grace and dignity, greeting guests in a polite and courteous manner.
- Responsible for all daily clean-up and sanitization activities including floors, tables, steam table, food preparation surfaces, utensils, dishes, and kitchen equipment in accordance with Serv Safe and applicable rules and regulations.
- Conduct routine cleaning of ventilation filters, stove ducts, refrigerators and other equipment as needed.
- Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Control and minimize waste.
- Receive goods and supplies and place them into inventory storage areas and in kitchen areas.
- Track inventory and report shortages to the Soup Kitchen Manager in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations and guidelines.
- Fulfills other position related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrate strong commitment to the mission of Lazarus House Ministries.
- 1+ year of experience working in food service, or equivalent of culinary arts or education.
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment and cooking techniques.
- Bilingual verbal fluency in English/Spanish is required.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain Serv Safe and CPR/First Aid certifications.
- Courteous, people and collaborative with excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to de-escalate situations as needed.
- Experience working with a diverse demographic of individuals that have experience food and/or housing insecurity and/or mental illness.
- Experience working with the general public.
- Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work well individually as well as part of a team.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays.

- Interact effectively with staff, guests, volunteers, benefactors, and the general public.
