Lazarus House Ministries started 37 years ago with a challenge from Mother Teresa (yes, THAT Mother Teresa) to a Marist Brother to make a difference in Lawrence. In the decades since, Lazarus House has earned a reputation as a trusted faith-based nonprofit in the Merrimack Valley. Food, shelter, work preparation, advocacy and clothing are our core strengths and we are committed to innovating to serve our community’s evolving needs best.

Position Summary:

The Executive Director will dynamically live out our Christian Mission, Vision and Values as the leader of this Ministry; guiding our staff through the 5-year strategic plan and visioning well beyond that. The Executive Director is responsible to ensure that Guest programs, operations, finances, and human resources support the strategic plan and ensure the fiscal health of the Ministry. Direct reports include Six Directors: Advocacy, Communications, Development, Finance, Human Resources, and Operations.

Leadership:

  • Lead, manage and steward the Christian culture, financial and in-kind donations, Guests, donors, staff, and community partners.

  • Work openly and collaboratively with the Board of Directors, Management, and staff.

  • Provide regular financial, operational, communications, programmatic and strategic updates at Board meetings as required.

  • Balance budgeted versus actual donations with projected expenditures to maintain LHM’s services.

  • Ensure (by example) prayer is part of the rhythm of daily operations.

  • Oversee evaluation of Guest programs, systems, and processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Engage as a leader and member of the DEIB team.

  • Develop positive local business, agency, and nonprofit connections and relationships.

  • Represent the Ministry with integrity, honesty, and transparency (the public face of the Ministry)

  • Invest time relationship-building with a designated portfolio of constituents to increase fundraising: individuals, corporations, faith organizations, and foundations

  • Influence all hiring efforts to ensure candidates understand and support our Mission/Vision/Values.

  • Ensure messaging and branding accurately and respectfully reflects our Values and care for Guests.

     

Qualifications:

  • Proven history of leading and managing a multimillion-dollar nonprofit or social enterprise organization with demonstrated success, overseeing operational and capital budgets of $5M – $10M.

  • BA/BS required: Master’s Degree preferred and/or commensurate experience.

  • Evident deep personal Christian faith.

  • Lead with empathy and compassion.

  • Bold and creative visionary leader.

  • Experienced Team Builder – inspiring, understanding, appreciating, and managing 60+ staff.

  • Collaborative management style – welcomes input, exchange of ideas, willing accountability.

  • Experience with human services – having a heart for people struggling with homelessness and food insecurity.

  • Bilingual Spanish preferred

  • Culturally Aware – interested in and capable of engaging and collaborating with local community, Guests, donors (at all levels), volunteers, and staff with ease (Lawrence, MA)

  • Ability to navigate through change and crises.

  • Experience implementing/monitoring strategic plans.
