Position Summary:
The Director of Finance is responsible for all aspects of the financial operations of Lazarus House Inc. (LHM). Reporting directly to the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Finance provides accounting, investing, reporting, forecasting and budgetary information and recommendations to support LHM operational and programmatic needs. The Director of Finance collaborates with the ED, the LHM Leadership Team as well as LHM Program Directors/Managers to develop and fulfill LHM’s Mission and Vision.
Position Description:
Actively manage as well as day-to-day accounting and financial operations. Hands on participation in these activities may be required.
Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly and other required financial reports.
In collaboration with the Leadership Team and Program Directors/Managers, develop budgets for all programs and LHM as a whole.
Report on financial results and issues to the Executive Director, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
Ensure accurate and timely filing of all Federal, State and City regulatory filings including Form 990, Massachusetts Form PC, etc.
Oversee banking activities and actively manage cash flow to ensure LHM needs are met.
Carry out LHM’s investment policy.
Manage accounting internal control systems to ensure accurate and timely production of accounting information, tracking of restricted donations, and safeguarding of assets.
Oversee contractual and financial obligations related to the Transitional Housing Project including property management, transactional needs, and financial reporting.
Support LHM Development team in fundraising, including analysis and reporting for events and reporting for foundation and government grants.
Collaborate with the leadership team and Program Directors/Managers to ensure accurate budgeting and monitoring of costs.
Coordinate and provide all necessary financial information for successful completion of audit activities.
Monitor changes in legal and regulatory environment and implement changes in procedures needed to maintain compliance.
Lead, guide, and manage the performance/activities of members of the Finance Team, including the Bookkeeper.
Provide support and presence at LHM events as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
Strong commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of LHM.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and 7+ years of financial management and accounting, non-profit accounting experience is strongly desired.
Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of non-profit accounting and financial management including appropriate knowledge of tax laws and related issues and regulations for 501(c)(3) organizations, including federal and state filings and sound internal controls.
Fluency in Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and accounting software.
Ability to proficiently and quickly adapt to and learn additional accounting software is highly desirable.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills including experience collaborating with a multidisciplinary, diverse and dynamic team.
Effective communicator both verbally and in writing.
A self-starter with strong analytical skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities.
Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Highly detail-oriented.
CPA designation is desirable.
Bilingual verbal fluency in English/Spanish preferred.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

- Prolonged sitting and standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Must possess eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate equipment pertinent to your position-computer, telephone, photocopier, scanner, etc.
- Must be able to lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Must possess sight/hearing/speech senses or use prosthetics that will enable these sense to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Travel from building to building within LHM and/or external agencies, companies and other locations
