In a state as wealthy as Massachusetts, no one should go hungry. Yet even here in the Merrimack Valley, 1 in 3 residents reported experiencing food insecurity last year. For decades, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has helped close that gap. SNAP provides food benefits to low-income individuals and families, with the goal of supplementing their grocery budgets with nutritious food. SNAP delivers $240 million in food assistance statewide each month with over 1 million people in Massachusetts relying on SNAP including 430,000 children. In Lawrence, where we work, 42% of the population receive SNAP benefits.
These part-time (various shifts primarily on weekends) positions are responsible for preparing meals, cleaning, laundry, organizing and providing support to Guests in a ministry-based approach to ensure the atmosphere of the Emergency Shelter is a safe, stable, structured and supportive one.

Since 1983, Lazarus House has supported our Guests as they overcome immense challenges, providing them with food, shelter, clothing, advocacy, and the life-skills necessary for building healthy and sustainable lives towards a path to self-sufficiency.

The Food Pantry Worker is responsible for assisting the Food Coordinator and working with/leading volunteers to ensure the day-to-day operations of the Food pantry are running properly and are in alignment with the Mission of Lazarus House Ministries. Occasional overtime may be required (seasonal holidays and weekends).

Gail comes to Lazarus House with more than 16 years of non-profit development experience, including extensive knowledge in major and individual giving, securing corporate partnerships, events, board relations, strategy execution and stewardship. She feels deeply connected to the Lazarus House Ministries’ mission and is looking forward to being in the position to make a stronger difference in people’s lives in the Merrimack Valley.
